Who We Are

Learn about our history and goals for the future

Since its creation in 2010, community theater in Belle Fourche has existed as a program of larger organizations, and during that time we did quite well for ourselves. With each successful play we grew, and learned, and evolved until one day we found that we had become too big for our britches. So, like many a teenager we decided to move out! And so, with the help of our community and a handful of dedicated volunteers, we have remade the Belle Fourche community theater program into the independent non-profit Belle Fourche Area Community Theater!

Mission Statement

Our Mission is to stimulate, promote, teach, and develop interest in the theater arts. We strive to share in providing cultural opportunities that serve the educational and entertainment needs of our community. And so, we welcome and provide opportunities of participation for all volunteers interested in the theater arts.

First and foremost we are theater nerds. We love all aspects of community theater: the acting and production, the set design, lighting, music, all of it. We love the camaraderie of it, the fellowship that happens when a group of like-minded people come together to produce something they could never achieve on their own. We love the thrill we see when one of our own gets to watch a play they’ve written come to life as it’s played out on the big stage. We crave the nervous excitement and anticipation that happens during auditions as folks read for their favorite parts. We have a strong desire to take the skills and appreciation that we’ve gained from theater and pass them on to the younger folk in our community, or anybody else for that matter. We love all of it and we want to share our nerdom as much as we can.

We’ve produced everything from the large musical Beauty and the Beast to more intimate one act shows written and directed by some of our very own community members. We also have plans to broaden our horizons with workshops, day camps and future sponsorships all aimed at education as well as entertainment. Our moving out is moving us toward new and exciting adventures.
