COME ENJOY A FUN TAKE ON A CLASSIC – FOR KIDS!

BFACT’s children’s show of 2022 Don Q and His Squire Sancho by Dick Caram is a retelling of the classic tale of Don Quixote. Miguel de Cervantes’s famed tale of the eccentric knight and his inept but trusting squire. Alonso Quixano is obsessed with tales of chivalry. So much so that he believes himself to be a knight – Don Quixote – and he sets out to seek adventure, with a peasant farmer, Sancho Panza, as his squire.

Even with a huge storm, the excitement of the cast couldn’t be dampened and they put on a heck of a performance, much to the delight of the enthusiastic crowd.

Only heaven knows how much harm my craziness has caused. But Sancho was my greatest fear. He believed as much as I did – and Sancho is not crazy.

ENJOY A NIGHT OF COMEDIC ONE ACTS!

We love doing our nights of one-acts at Belle Fourche Area Community Theater and in 2022 we had a great night of four hilarious shows. The show starts with the mystery and revenge fueled Pandora’s Revenge then transitioned to the meta commentary of story and the characters stuck in the middle of it with Boise, Idaho. Then there was the micro one-act Coffeehouse Hotel about sisters running two conjoined businesses or are they who they say they are and ended the night with Self-HELP!, the story of three friends who need some help with their lives and go looking for that help in the worst possible place.

The first performance of Take a Bow was held at Belle Fourche Community Hall but because this is South Dakota, a freak snowstorm blew through, and the cast had to tear down the set and perform a few days later back at our normal home of the Belle Fourche Rec Center Auditorium. The weather didn’t keep the cast down, nor the audience who got to spend a night of side-splitting laughter.

THAT… THAT IS PRETTY MESSED UP, I MEAN I AM A CREATURE OF PURE EVIL AND TERROR, BUT THIS BOSS SOUNDS, REALLY GROSS.

ABADDON FROM “SELF-HELP!”

Pandora’s Revenge by Pat Cook

The story goes, according to legend, that when Pandora’s box was opened all sorts of pleasures and evils escaped. Just what sort of package has Marvin Hanover opened, he wonders, as he tries to sell insurance to Miss Thorndyke. First, she really isn’t Miss Thorndyke—she’s Ida Simpkins and she doesn’t actually live at the address she gave him over the phone. She seems to have more questions for Marvin than he ever saw on any application. Panicked by the evening news and her rundown neighborhood, she grills Marvin like a hamburger patty. Lines fly fast and ferociously in this cat-and-mouse adventure with Marvin wondering just who’s the cat and who’s the mouse.

Boise, Idaho by Sean Michael Welch

The narrator of a story dutifully chronicles the meeting of a couple in a small café in Paris, France, only to start losing control of his characters once they realize he exists. Blending the lines between fiction and truth, this hilarious play examines what should triumph: reality, or a good story.

Coffeehouse Hotel by Derek Olson

Come enjoy your stay at the Coffeehouse Hotel. Or actually, you can’t enjoy yourself at the coffeehouse or the hotel. That may not make a lot of sense but in this fast-paced comedy, Tristan just wants to get his room and a latte but the sisters Maeve and Maeve aren’t going to make it easy.

Self-HELP! by Derek Olson

A night of gaming becomes anything but when the dread demon Abaddon is summoned. Three friends want Abaddon to fix the various problems in their lives but he has his own ideas and things don’t go quite like anyone expects them to. This comedic one act is all about getting what you want isn’t always what you imagine.

Our Annual Tradition is back in person!

Four To Go For Christmas is four fun and funny Christmas plays. In The Christmas Caper Santa is kidnapped by a little-known fairytale character who just wants to be popular. In The Night of the New and Improved Christmas, a Madison Avenue public relations firm wants to update Santa and the whole holiday tradition. In Christmas With the Cratchits, Tiny Tim’s family is ecstatic when they think they’ve won the lottery. In Million Dollar Christmas, three of the most miserly people ever known must give away a million dollars by midnight on Christmas Eve.

But elves, I’m confused. What do I need with a consulting firm way up here in the North Pole?

All Hail the new Mr. Beautiful Fork – Nathan Schreier

We want to thank everyone for making Mr. Beautiful Fork – Fight Night a fantastic event. We want to thank our volunteers: Anna Robinson; Emma Tinsley; Heather Pittman, Kelsey Gronlund; Carrie Donovan. We also want to thank our amazing Emcee, Geno Pesicka and our wonderufl contestants. Of course we want to congratulate our new Mr. Beautiful Fork, Nathan Schreier

It’s for a worthy cause

The most important thing about Mr. Beautiful Fork – Fight Night is that all the money raised went right back into Belle Fourche Area Community Theater. It costs a lot of money during the season to put on the shows and the events we do and the generosity of the people of Belle Fourche and the surrounding area is what allows us to continue.

We were so happy to finish our 2020 – 2021 Season with the classic comedy, Arsenic and Old Lace. It was a pleasure to present and we are so grateful for the enthusiastic response to this hilarious show.

The Story

Drama critic Mortimer Brewster’s engagement announcement is upended when he discovers a corpse in his elderly aunts’ window seat. Mortimer rushes to tell Abby and Martha before they stumble upon the body themselves, only to learn that the two old women aren’t just aware of the dead man in their parlor, they killed him! Between his aunts’ penchant for poisoning wine, a brother who thinks he’s Teddy Roosevelt, and another brother using plastic surgery to hide from the police—not to mention Mortimer’s own hesitancy about marriage—it’ll be a miracle if Mortimer makes it to his wedding. Arsenic and Old Lace is a classic black comedy about the only thing more deadly than poison: family.

BFACT is back with a night of one acts

After time away in person due to the pandemic we were very excited to be back in person, this collection of locally written one-acts was our first in-person stage show since December 2019. This show was a huge success and a lot of fun, a great chance for our volunteers to get back together and perform with one another again.

The Shows

Collections

Collections tells the story of a group of workers at a call center on what might be their last day before their branch shuts down. Just because they are bad at their jobs doesn’t mean they will go down without a fight! This fast-paced comedy has lots of laughs and lots of absurdity. That is unless you’ve worked in a call center, then you might have actually met these characters before.

School Spirit

School Spirit is about different groups of people who break into a local High School on a Saturday. They may have all broken in for their own reasons but they have one thing in common, a ghost that doesn’t want them there! Join these teachers, janitors, students, nerds and graduates as they find out it is easy to break-in, getting out is the hard part. This comedy is co-written by first-time local author Toi Lyn Flick.

Doctor Vile

Doctor Vile is about the eponymous villain and his efforts to get into the villain’s union, V.E.N.O.M. The only thing standing in his way is an over-the-hill super spy, potential love, an evaluator who has no time for his nonsense and a whole bunch of incompetence. Don’t worry though, he won’t let that stand in his way. This comedy was co-written by local theater director Nathan Schreier.

Mr. Brawn is referring to V.E.N.O.M. Villains Evil Network Of Malignancy. We are a union that allows professional villains all across the globe to pool resources, share secrets, technology, that sort of thing. We are top tier villainy.

A Christmas classic performed in a new kind of way

A Christmas Carol is one of the most recognizable and beloved Christmas tales written by Charles Dickens. It tells the story of old, miserly Ebenezer Scrooge who is visited by the ghost of his former business partner, Jacob Marley, and the spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come. After his incredible Christmas Eve, Scrooge becomes a kinder, gentler man. First published in 1843 there have been many different versions over the years, including in 1939 when Orson Welles performed it at the Campbell Playhouse.

In 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic and being unable to perform in front of a full audience, Belle Fourche Area Community Theater performed this version as a radio play. This show was sent out live across the internet to our patrons and was given free to various senior centers across the area.

Ebenezer, I am here to warn you that you have yet a chance of hope of escaping my fate. Do you hear that, Ebenezer?

Here’s a comedy package of 12 yuletide sketches just perfect to give your audience for an evening’s entertainment this Christmas! Everybody in the little town of Christmas is friendly and funny and you’ll meet them all, including Skeezix and Sylvester, an elf comedy team that is short in stature and long in laughter; Dancer, the reindeer with a whacky sense of humor; Mrs. Claus, the REAL boss of the outfit; and a hilarious street corner Santa, tested and almost bested by one tough little kid with a sticky sucker.

Also included are old favorite stories such as “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas” and “A Christmas Carol,” updated and aimed right for the funny bone, of course. Throw in a wandering group of carolers who cough and sneeze on cue, three kids trying their best to be wise men in the Christmas play, and a riotous lecture on Christmas etiquette, and you’re in for an evening of holiday laughter and warmth.

I help him out. In my little way, standing on this corner, I do what I can. And you should too.

Community Theater is back in Belle Fourche

After a break to reorganize and come back as a non-profit, community theater was back in Belle Fourche as Belle Fourche Community Theater became Belle Fourche Area Community Theater and we kicked off this new era with the heartwarming Christmas show, The Little Town of Christmas. Not having done theater since summer of 2018, our volunteers were so excited to be back together and on stage once again doing what we all love, theater. The show was a hit, our worry that the audience had forgotten about us after a long hiatus turned out to be nothing because they came out in droves to support theater in our small town once again.
