‘Jupiter & Mars’ was conceived after BFACT had to cancel two summer shows that were scheduled for June and August and a fundraiser because of COVID-19. It is hard right now to practice in person and have shows in theaters with possibly hundreds of people so a decision was made to create an online-only show. A writer’s group of BFACT alumni has been meeting for a couple of months now, all virtual meetings, writing the nine episodes. Casting was done via Zoom meetings and each episode has been recorded online so there has been no in-person contact by anyone working on this production. This is definitely a unique way to create a show, but has been a positive experience by those working on it. The end-result will also be a unique experience for those in the area.

The show is about a disgraced journalist, Maxine Jupiter, who has to move back to her hometown of Belle Fourche to start again. While doing a report on a slightly odd at-risk-youth ranch on the outskirts of town she met a young man, Mars Mitchell, with a troubled past that he says is because of the mind control that happened to him at that camp. Together the two of them must unravel the mysteries and dangers of the Calamity Ranch, a place that is much more than it seems.

  'Interlude: 1876'

  The year is 1876, and a spaceship has crashed in the prairie North of the Black Hills. Its cargo: tentacled, aquatic, alien refugees from a destroyed galaxy, looking for a new home. Now scout leader Sedna and her hapless troops must use advanced, cloned bodies to go undercover, infiltrate Deadwood, and learn about their dangerous, new neighbors: humans.

Between pepper spray, a trip to the car wash, burgers and sidewinders, psychic powers, and a strange medical facility, will Jupiter find the story of the century or an early grave next to the lunatic that is Mars Mitchel?

  'Max Jupiter'

  To be indelicate, the last thing Maxine Jupiter needs in her life is crazy. A discredited national reporter with a recent diagnosis of mental illness, Jupiter has come home to Belle Fourche for peace, quiet and healing. She takes a job at a local paper hoping the slow pace will aid in her recovery. Ultimately however, she finds small town news reporting to be boring and unfulfilling; that changes however when crazy comes crashing back into her life.
